About the City

Karlstad is situated on the north shore of lake Vänern just in the middle between Stockholm and Oslo. Karlstad is ideally placed in central Sweden with convenient access to the major urban centres of Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Oslo, by car, bus, train, or air. As our high trade index shows Karlstad is a very strong regional centre with four key areas that we focus upon: our university, the packaging, pulp and paper industry, services, and tourism. Karlstad municipality has approximately 82,100 inhabitants and 55 000 in the city centre, and is growing continuously. Our vision is to reach 100,000 inhabitants and we work hard to become even more attractive for people to come and live here. Karlstad is the centre for pulp industry and a cluster for IT. We have one university and are a city well situated with consultants in the pulp and paper industry, services, and tourism The sun is the symbol for Karlstad, but the interesting thing is what the sun stands for - a good business climate, a friendly attitude, and a city full of experiences.
